Time Change - Oh NO!

12 March 2012

Sunset at7:47 PMin direction266°WestWest
Duration of day: 11 hours, 33 minutes (6 minutes, 44 seconds longer than yesterday)

What is the point of Daylight Savings time when it has absolutely nothing to do with how light and dark interplay this far north?  What point is there in a noon day sun that is actually 10:00 am?  Why worry about how dark it is when school children come home when you live in a place that is either more dark than light or more light than dark?

Watch carefully as I mount my soap box ..

The need for  Daylight Savings Time, based in our agrarian roots is no longer applicable.  However, "studies" have shown that when we switch from daylight savings to standard time, pedestrian deaths increase.  I have no doubt those statistics are correct, but have they studied what the effect would be if no change was made to the time either fall or spring?

No, because someone, somewhere thinks Daylight Savings Time is a benefit somewhere.  So, they move away from standard time to make the new standard off the meridian for noon by one hour (in most places).

And here, I walk at "noon" when it is still morning and I long for the balance found in the old ways.
